Jerry "the King" Lawler's autobiography is titled "It's Good to be the King ... Sometimes." Now is one of those times.
In the next week or two, Lawler will be traveling to Chicago to be a celebrity guest photographer. He'll be shooting nude Playboy models for Playboy.com, and his work is scheduled to appear on the Web site at the same time that Torrie Wilson's Playboy Magazine pictorial is on newsstands (in the May edition, on sale in late March).
"My first reaction was, 'Once again, it's good to be the King,'" Lawler told WWE.com. "I'm just waiting to see who the Playmates are."
One of Playboy.com's regular features is "Rock Shots," a section on the site in which, according to the Web site, "The hottest celebs shoot Playboy's hottest models when they become photographer for a day." Other stars who have participated include Carmen Electra, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Marilyn Manson, Tommy Lee, DMX, Xzibit and Nelly.
To view the actual photos, you must be a member of Playboy.com's Cyber Club, a pay service.
Lawler said the motif of the shoot will be wrestling; other celebrities' shoots have been tied in with their line of work. Earnhardt, for example, photographed the Playmates at a pit stop.
The partnership between between Playboy and Lawler makes sense on so many levels. Of course, it's no secret that "the King" is a fan of the "puppies" -- that's not just an act while he's commentating on RAW. Plus, Lawler has extensive experience photographing extremely attractive women for "The King's Kam" section of his popular Web site, KingLawler.com. Lawler's no amateur; he actually took photography courses while studying commercial arts at the University of Memphis.
Lawler said he was offered the chance to shoot for Playboy in an out-of-the-blue phone call. "I thought it was a joke," he said. But it turned out to be an actual Playboy employee who happened to be a big WWE fan, and figured it would be a great cross-promotion with Wilson's pictorial.
Asked how much he was getting paid for his "work," King responded, "Paid? You mean how much am I paying them?"
