From Gamespot.com
Three major US retailers are declining to stock Acclaim's mature-themed BMX XXX. Wal-Mart, Toys "R" Us, and KB Toys have refused to stock Acclaim's upcoming BMX XXX, according to a Reuters report. The game is reported to have little shortage of nudity, sexual suggestiveness, and explicit language. Acclaim has heavily promoted the game's "mature" content as its central appeal, but since the game's a spin-off of the Dave Mirra's BMX series, the core gameplay will focus on freestyle BMX tricks. BMX XXX is scheduled to ship November 19, and Acclaim is confident that it will have extensive retail distribution. In the UK, the publisher is notorious for questionable publicity stunts, welcoming the controversy they generate. The game is currently available for preorder at Electronics Boutique and GameStop.
The game is a change of pace for the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX series. Although the game was originally named Dave Mirra BMX XXX, in August, Acclaim confirmed that the name was changed to drop the Dave Mirra association. At the same time, Acclaim revealed plans for a third official game in the Dave Mirra series, which is for next year. Earlier this year, Activision acquired Z-Axis, the developer of BMX XXX, the Dave Mirra BMX series, and Aggressive Inline, and it's likely that next year's Dave Mirra game will be by a new developer.
