Very few times in your life do you meet someone who will affect and change your life forever. Even though Curt Hennig and I were not blood brothers, I knew we were brothers. He watched out for me, I watched out for him. I had great respect for Curt and felt he had the same respect for me.
In all the times that we knew each other, going from town to town, up and down the roads all over the world, we never once said a cross word to each other. We talked about family, business and life - all sorts of personal business that was just between us. I watched Curt pull ribs on people - nothing serious, just things that made people laugh and laugh, even if you were the butt of the joke, which I was on many occasions. Curt was a special person with a special talent for making people laugh.
Going to his funeral was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but the fact that everyone has to go through something like this in their life made it somewhat bearable. The strength of Curt's wonderful family - his children Joe, Amy, Katie and Hank, and his beautiful wife Leonice - was amazing. Their character and the character of Curt showed right through, making everyone stronger. Katie told me that her daddy would not want us to be sad; he would want us to laugh, and she was right. Many of Curt's friends and family in Minnesota that knew him his whole life were wonderful to me. By telling me how much Curt thought of me, they made me feel special in a time of great sadness, because they knew something I already knew: Curt loved me as much as I loved him. Curt, I will miss your laughter and true friendship. You and your family are in my heart forever. I will never forget you, my friend.
